MTN Ghana launches $25m ICT hub project to train 200,000 youth and create 100,000 jobs

MTN Ghana has launched a $25 million project to construct an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub in Accra, Ghana. The ICT hub, which is part of the Ghana Innovation Hub initiative by MTN, is aimed at providing training for over 200,000 youths in ICT and digital skills and is expected to generate more than 100,000 jobs within the first three years.

The project is done in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and the Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) and is expected to be completed in 18 months. The completed hub will provide office spaces and meeting venues for more than 100 technology companies.

The project’s sod-cutting ceremony was held at the Accra Digital Centre, where virtual reality headsets were given to dignitaries, including the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, for a walk-through three-dimensional virtual experience of how the building would look like. MTN Ghana’s CEO, Selorm Adadevoh, said the initiative would prepare the youth to have better prospects of succeeding and competing in the global digital economy.
